I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Joe Maturo, Jr., State Representative James Albis, and the East Haven Fall Festival Merit Award Committee for the honor of being chosen as one of the three recipients of the 2017 Mayor’s Merit Award. Congratulations also go to Gail Nettleton and Steve Tracey for their awards—well deserved. This was quite an unexpected honor, and a very special experience. Thanks also to the Foxon Country House for an excellent dinner kicking off the Fall Festival, and to all the friends, family, and co-workers who attended on our behalf. It was a wonderful night.

I would also like to thank the entire Fall Festival Committee, Public Works Department, and all of the businesses, vendors, and entertainers who provided us with a weekend showcasing the best of East Haven and the surrounding area. The concerts were outstanding, and students who participated and performed clearly worked very hard to give their best performances and demonstrations. The weather cooperated, and a fun time was had by all who attended.

I would encourage every resident of East Haven to consider volunteering in some way to help our town become an even better place to live and work. It need not take a lot of time or effort, even an hour a month would make a difference. Find a group or committee that represents something of interest to you, and get involved. It will give you a sense of purpose, and help a group in need to reach their goals, a win-win for everyone.
