Help Needed to Keep Nite in Hand Going
Nite in Hand-a fun, safe, substance-free evening of celebration held at the high school for graduating seniors-is in its 23rd year. Many do not realize this event is not funded or organized by the school, it is entirely funded by donations and organized and executed by parents. Nite in Hand requires hundreds of volunteers each year to pull it off.
Nite in Hand needs community support on all levels, from small jobs one can do at his or her home to donating cash or volunteering to work at the event. This wonderful tradition is in danger of not continuing if more parents don't step forward soon, especially parents of underclassmen who can carry it on for future classes. Parents of students (of any age) can find out how to help by contacting Ellen Paternoster at 203-421-5977 or ellen.paternoster@sbcglobal.net.
If your readers can't spare any time, I encourage them to send a donation to: Carol Felicetta, 216 Opening Hill Rd., Madison, CT 06443.
The event is also in dire need of dry, secure storage space where decorations can be stored from year to year. If your readers have any space they can spare or have any ideas, I ask them to call Kim Ryan at 203-421-5605.
Finally, I encourage your readers to attend the annual Senior Auction April 6 at 6 p.m. at Daniel Hand High School to help this important tradition continue. Don't let Nite in Hand disappear before younger children get a chance to experience it. Please step up now.
