North Branford Girls’ Lacrosse Hands Valley First Loss; Baseball and Softball Teams Finish Regular Season with 13 Wins
The North Branford girls’ lacrosse team finished its regular season with a record of 12-4 after notching road wins over Valley Regional and Morgan last week. The Thunderbirds are competing in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and then have the Class S State Tournament after that.
On May 17, the T-Birds played a road game versus Valley Regional and claimed a 20-13 victory to hand the Warriors their first loss of the year. Senior Braeden LeBeau scored 7 goals and had 3 assists in the win. Junior Mea Riordan scored 5 goals, sophomore Keana Criscuolo netted 3 goals, and senior Grace Marra handed out 6 assists to go with 1 goal for North Branford.
Junior Mia Park scored 2 goals, while senior Marissa Raffone and sophomore Sofia Toto added 1 goal apiece. Junior Ava Candelora made 6 saves to get the win in net.
Three days later, North Branford traveled to Clinton to face off against Morgan and defeated the Huskies by a 16-6 score in its last game of the regular season.
North Branford played Valley Regional in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament on May 24 (after press time). With a win, the T-Birds would face the winner of Old Saybrook and Haddam- Killingworth for the title on Thursday, May 26 at 5 p.m. at the Indian River Complex.
The North Branford boys’ lacrosse team took two defeats during the final week of the regular season to finish with a record of 7-9. The T-Birds will be competing in the Class S State Tournament beginning this week.
On May 17, North Branford hosted Valley Regional and lost to the Warriors by the score of 15-9. Two days later, the T-Birds took a 23-4 road loss versus Northwest Catholic in their final game of the regular season.
The North Branford baseball team finished its regular season with a mark of 13-7 after claiming victories in a pair of road games last week. The Thunderbirds, who have qualified for the Class S State Tournament, defeated Westbrook and North Haven during the final week of regular-season action.
North Branford kicked off the week by earning a 14-3 win at Westbrook on May 16. Two days later, the T-Birds played a road game against North Haven and defeated the Nighthawks by the final score of 7-2.
North Branford has the No. 5 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and played at No. 4 Haddam-Killingworth in the quarterfinals on May 23 (after press time). With a victory, the T-Birds would have played the winner of No. 1 seed Valley Regional and No. 8 East Hampton on May 24 (after press time). The championship game takes place at Palmer Field on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m.
The North Branford softball squad played three home games to close out the 2022 regular season last week. The T-Birds came away with one victory to post a record of 13-7 in advance of Shorelines and states.
The Thunderbirds recorded a 9-0 shutout over Coginchaug at North Branford High School on May 16. Sophomore Kiley Mullins pitched a complete game to lead the T-Birds to the victory. Sophomore Natalia Lucibello had a double, a triple, and a home run for North Branford. Freshman Lexi Falcioni hit a triple, while senior Lauren Ackerman and sophomore Lindsey Onofrio each had a double in the win.
Then on May 19, North Branford hosted East Haven and lost the contest by a 5-0 score. The next day, the T-Birds played a home game versus Cromwell and took a 4-0 defeat versus the Panthers in their last game of the regular season
The North Branford girls’ tennis team gained a split of two recent matches to move to 4-13 entering the last week of its regular season.
In its first match of the week, North Branford took a 5-2 road loss against Lyman Hall on May 17. Junior Payton Kamienski rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 3 singles match for North Branford. The T-Birds’ No. 2 doubles team of senior Diya Patel and freshman Daytona Kamienski won their match by the score of 6-3, 6-1.
Then on May 19, the Thunderbirds bounced back by posting a 5-2 home victory over East Hampton.
