Westbrook Girls’ Tennis Collects Two More Wins; Baseball Takes Three Defeats
Girls’ Tennis
The Westbrook girls’ tennis team continued its winning ways last week with another pair of victories over opponents Cromwell and Portland. The wins helped the Knights improve their record to 11-1 on the season.
On May 7, Westbrook hosted Portland and secured a 6-1 win against the Highlanders. Julian Farnoli earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles position, while at the No. 2 spot, Gianni Salisbury claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win. At the no. 4 spot, Tatiana Ramous got the win by default.
As for doubles, the No. 1 tandem of Xan Zanzalari and Bree Koplas netted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win, and the No. 2 duo of Adriana Stranieri and Olivia Palumbo seized a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. At the No. 3 position, Caroline Dias and Marlee Archer took a win by default.
The next day, Westbrook hosted Cromwell and claimed another 6-1 win on the week. The Knights were bolstered by victories from Farnoli (6-3, 6-4) and Salisbury (6-0, 6-2) at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Jami Sacco grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.
On the doubles courts, Zanzalari and Koplas (6-3, 6-1), Stranieri and Palumbo (6-2, 6-0), and Dias and Archer (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) all secured victories in the win.
Baseball
The Knights had three games on the schedule last week and took losses in all three. Westbrook’s record drops to 0-13 on the year.
On May 3, Westbrook lost an 8-0 road contest against North Branford. Three days later, the Knights dropped a 16-6 road game against Old Saybrook. On May 7, Westbrook lost a 10-0 road matchup versus Coginchaug.
Softball
The Westbrook softball squad lost four contests by forfeit last week. Westbrook had games scheduled against North Branford on May 3, Old Saybrook on May 5, and Coginchaug on May 6 and 7.
