Huskies’ Bats Come Alive in 9-2 Triumph Versus Cougars
The Clinton Huskies squared off against the Shoreline Cougars in a recent matchup of 18-U AAU baseball teams. The Huskies secured a 9-2 victory over the Cougars at Haddam-Killingworth High School on July 20 to raise their record to 11-7 record on the season.
John Urban threw four innings and gave up a pair of runs, before Connor Derry came on in relief and pitched three scoreless for the Huskies in the victory. Clinton had a big offensive inning in the third by scoring six runs to go up 6-0. Derry and Urban both reached base on hits, after which Mike Zingarella worked a walk to load the bases. AJ Fritz then came to the plate and hit a bases-clearing double. Nick Caprio followed by hitting a triple off the right-field fence to drive in Fritz. After that, Russ Green had a base knock to bring home Caprio. Ray Seward notched a base hit to move Green up a base, and then Cooper Thompson hit a double that scored Green.
In fourth inning, Derry and Fritz both reached base again. Caprio’s hit scored Derry, and then Green drove in Fritz and Caprio on a two-out base hit to help the Huskies run away with the convincing victory.
