Guilford Wrestling Moves to 6-0 by Taking Fermi Duals

Following a 55-9 victory over Cheshire on Dec. 22, Guilford won the Fermi Duals on Dec. 26 to push the Indians to 6-0 on the year. Guilford bested St. Bernard (66-12), Somers (66-17), Manchester (72-12), and Killingly (45-25 in the finals) to prevail at the meet for the fourth-consecutive season.
Undefeated grapplers at Fermi included Keldon LaRose (113-pound weight class, 3 pins), Stephen Napoli (120), Andrew Ignoto (126 with 3 pins), Josh Violette (145 with 4 pins), Drew Tischer (152 with 3 pins), Oscar Carmona (160 with 3 pins), and Jehiel Bryant (195). Competitors who went 3-1 were Danny Carmona (106 with 1 pin), Carter Cox (132 with 3 pins), and Zach Conover (182 with 1 pin). Christion Swan (138 with 2 pins) and AJ Moscato (170 with 1 pin) both went 2-2. Jack Six (220 with 1 pin) and Tanner Small (285) were also victorious.
“Our team wrestled the best I’ve seen in years today. We still have a lot to work on, but the effort and enthusiasm the team showed today was outstanding. We wrestled as a team today and rallied around each other all day,” said Head Coach Craig Vedrani. “We had four starters out of the line up due to injury and sickness [120, 132 145, 285], but multiple guys stepped up and performed well to help our team capture our fourth title in a row at the Fermi Duals. I am very proud of the effort and focused the boys wrestled with.”
Boys’ Basketball
Guilford began the year with a 46-35 home win against North Haven on Dec. 22. Jordan Krause led the scoring sheet with 13 points, plus Noah Rubino added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Indians took an 11-0 loss to Amity-North Haven-Cheshire on Dec. 23. Brooke Misbach made 25 saves for Guilford, which had 14 shots on net. Guilford (0-4) then was edged 4-3 by Notre Dame-Fairfield/Foran on Dec. 30.
In the latter contest, Sarah Russo, Alexa Petritz, and Catherin Lawrence each scored for the Indians. Assisting on goals were Petritz, Rose Riccio, and Lawrence. Guilford was outshot by a slight 36-33 margin with Misbach making 32 saves.
