One Strong Performance in Deep River Horseshoe League
Bill Strong was the top scorer for the A Division in Week 16 action for the Deep River Horseshoe League. Strong posted a mark of 138 to lead the pack with Billy Beckwith scoring a 128 and Mike Zanelli a 121. Strong still owns the second-best mark for high series on the season in the A tier with his 148, trailing only Jim Scully (164).
For the B Division, Dave Steuerwald took first place again as his 118 proved the top score. He was followed by Ed Turner with his 115 and Victor Peckaitis at 101. Steuerwald (130) and Peckaitis (125) remain in command of the best two scores for high series among B shooters.
Mike Kennedy was another repeat victor in the C Division by turning in a score of 125. John Hutra finished second at 93 and Paul Stevens was third with a 90. Kennedy and Hutra continue to own the best marks for high game on the summer in the C tier with scores of 44 and 41, respectively, in addition to high series with Kennedy’s 130 and Hutra’s 103.
For the team standings, the Red Sox are 59.5-30.5 and hold an eight-game lead over the Braves (51.5-38.5) for the first-place spot. The Giants are in third place with a record of 49-41, while the Pirates and Astros stand tied for fourth at 47.5-42.5. Previously in Week 14 action that had been postponed due to rain, Scully scored 147 and lead the A Division with Chris Christensen and Chip Goodrich tied for second with 132.
The B Division was led by Peckaitis, who shot a 106 and was followed by Paul Noel in second (99) and John Sciacca in third (98).
For the C Division, Kennedy was the top man by posting a total of 125. Bill Brown was next with an 84, while Hutra scored a 79.
