Musical Masterworks's Season Finale May 5 & 6
Musical Masterworks presents the final concerts in its chamber music series at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme on Saturday, May 5 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m. Featured artists will include pianist Rieko Aizawa, violinist Steven Copes, and violinist/violist Yehonatan Berick. Musical Masterworks Artistic Director Edward Arron will perform on cello and serve as host for the concerts.
The program will feature works by Schubert, Prokofiev, and Dvorak. The finale of the concerts will be the Piano Quartet in C minor by Gabriel Faure.
Aizawa made her debut at age 13 at Washington's Kennedy Center, when she performed as soloist with the New York String Orchestra. Since then, she has appeared at all the great concert halls of the U.S. and Europe, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York, at Boston's Symphony Hall, and at Chicago's Orchestra Hall. She has performed as soloist with orchestras including the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
Berick, a virtuoso violinist and violist, is a winner of the prestigious Naumburg Violin Competition, and is currently in the midst of a worldwide tour performing the complete Paganini Caprices.
Copes is the concertmaster of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and is known for leading the orchestra from his chair in several highly acclaimed, eclectic programs. He also appears frequently as soloist with the that orchestra and with other ensembles throughout the world. Arron performs regularly at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and is a frequent guest soloist at summer festivals, including Ravinia, Salzburg, Mostly Mozart, and Spoleto.
