Shoreline Golf Society Crowns a Pair of Champions
The Shoreline Golf Society (SGS) recently hosted two of its biggest events of the summer at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield. On Aug. 16, the SGS held its 36-hole Club Championship and its 27-hole Net Stableford Championship on the three courses at Lyman Orchards.
Glenn Zavorskas of Madison finished with a score of 153 to take first place in the SGS Club Championship. Old Saybrook resident Mike Rowan came in second place by posting a score of 162.
Zavorskas and Rowan both showed their ability to be consistent while dealing with rainy conditions at the event. Competing from the blue tees, Zavorskas turned in a round of 76 on the Player Course and a score of 77 for the Jones Course on his way to a total of 153. Rowan shot an 80 on the Player Course and had a score of 82 on the Jones Course for his final total of 162.
Defending champion Matt Fleming of North Branford finished in a tie for third place with Madison’s Scott Feldman.
Rafael Martinez of Cromwell took first place at the SGS Net Stableford Championship. Martinez finished with a total of 58 points over the 27 holes, resulting in a score that equated to three under par. Eric Lieberman of Essex finished in second place with 55 points for the event. Bruce Tischer of West Haven and Mike Suozzi of Madison both scored 53 points to finish in a tie for third place.
The SGS is an 85-member club that is in its 22nd year of existence. The club is a member of the Connecticut State Golf Association and the United States Golf Association. For info on the SGS, visit sgsict.com.
