Serious Signs
Recently, some people driving into Chester have mistaken the handicapped parking signs for "pizza pick-up" signs. If that error originates in poor reading skills, I recommend various adult literacy programs available in our state. If, however, the individuals read and understood the signs, I ask that they reflect on their reasons for taking parking spaces intended for those with physical disabilities.
Does the inconvenience of walking a block supersede the needs of a 90 year-old woman with an artificial hip? While amorality, self-importance, and an abiding sense of entitlement are handicaps, the law does not yet recognize them as sufficient to justify a handicapped parking permit. I encourage your readers to leave these designated spaces for those who most need our assistance.
