Guilford U-15 Boys’ Soccer Wins Connecticut Cup
The Guilford Timbers U-15 boys’ soccer team won the Connecticut Cup title by earning a 1-0 victory versus Ridgefield in the championship game at Curtiss Park in Simsbury on Nov. 3. The Connecticut Cup is a statewide single-elimination tournament that was held each week throughout the fall. The tournament began with 35 teams and Guilford was ultimately crowned the champion with its win against Simsbury. Guilford had reached the final of the tournament by posting a 3-0 victory over Suffield in the first round, a 2-1 win against Tolland in the second round, a 4-2 win versus Farmington in the quarterfinals, and a 2-0 victory over Woodbury in the semifinals.
The members of Guilford’s team include Luke St. Marie, Tyler Yerkes, Will Rice, Luke Izzo, Justin Hess, Joshua Chen, Mark Michna, Kyle Chen, Gavin Mensing, Savan Parikh, Ethan Sullivan, Zachary Pawelek, Colin Lataillade, Jonathan Leite, Sam Mackowiak, Sean McSweet, and Sami AbuGhazaleh. Guilford’s head coach is Cliff Yerkes, and Mark Micha is the team’s assistant coach.
