Career Achievements
• Dr. Aaron Bernard has been appointed clinical skills director at Quinnipiac University.
• Robert Joven has been appointed university librarian at Quinnipiac University. Joven has served as interim university librarian since August of 2013.
• Steven M. Miller of Classic Properties, LLC in Hamden has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Greater New Haven Association of REALTORS® for 2014.
Service Awards and Recognitions
• Walter Brockett received the Federated Garden Club of Connecticut Ellen Carder Memorial Award for his work planting cherry trees. The North Haven Garden Club received the Connecticut Arboreal Award for the same project.
• Gerri Giordano received the Connecticut Tribute Award and a Certificate of Achievement in the celebration of Earth Day from the Federated Garden Clubs.
• 2014 North Haven Community Service Awards: Alan J. Cantele (Outstanding Police Officer), Robert Kovach (Outstanding Volunteer Firefighter), Mark Minotti (Citizen of the Year), and Lt. David Obier (Outstanding Firefighter).
• Ellie Tessmer developed a Press Book for the North Haven Garden Club which earned a special certificate at the New England Region Garden Club meeting of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut. The club also received a Garden Therapy Award of Excellence.
Acts of Community Service and Charitable Contributions
• Farooq H. Khan of the Montowese Health & Rehabilitation Center matched his company's donation with a personal contribution of $1,000 for scholarships to students studying in medical fields given by the North Haven Rotary Foundation.
• North Haven Garden Club Holiday Projects at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Connecticut Hospice, and Elderly Housing: Mary Cameron, Lina Cardozo, Lee Fermo, Gerri Giordano, Cindy Golia, Lois Gough, Brenda Howlett, Joan Longobardi, Judy Neubig, Marge Quinn, Carmen Sealy, and Lois Stover.
• North Haven Rotary members Deana Morin and Theresa Ranciato-Viele are leading club volunteers in an effort to donate food and their time each month at the community suppers hosted by St. John's Church.
• Danny Perrotto, founder of Bikes for Babes, donated more than 10 new bicycles for the 2013 holiday toy distribution for the Department of Community Services.
• Angelo and Antoinette Verdini have become major donors to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and have been recognized as Paul Harris Fellows of the highest level. This status is achieved by donating at least $10,000 to the Foundation. Angelo has been a member for more than 50 years.
