Man Draws Prison Time in '09 Fatal Boat Accident
Guilford man has drawn prison time for a drunken boating accident that killed a childhood friend.
The New Haven Register reports that Arthur King Hall was sentenced in New Haven Superior Court on Monday to 10 years in jail suspended after 3½ years with five years of probation for manslaughter with a vessel while under the influence, reckless endangerment and assault.
Hall pleaded no contest in May.
Police said Hall's blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit when he crashed a Boston Whaler into a seawall on Sept. 3, 2009. The crash killed 25-year-old Jonathan Cook and injured two other passengers.
The case has led to lawsuits against Hall by the victims' families and prompted state lawmakers to raise penalties for drunken boating.
