Lutheran Church Plans “Worship Under the Stars”

Contemporary Band Singers

In celebration of their 70th Anniversary, The Lutheran Church of Madison will hold a contemporary “Worship Under the Stars” service on the lawn of the church at 9 Britton Lane (west end of the town Green) on Wednesday, August 21, at 7 pm. Pastor Volker Heide will present a special message, “Celebrating 70 year of God’s Grace in Christ,” and a live band will perform contemporary Christian music.

In 1950, less than one year after its founding in November 1949, the church conducted a “Chapel Under the Stars” on the town Green on August 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. All were invited to attend these special services, which featured special messages, music and speakers. After the service each night, a religious movie was shown.

According to an article published in the Shoreline Times on August 10, 1950, student Pastor Andrew Finger explained the purpose of these services. “We feel that we have a real Gospel message for the people of Madison and surrounding communities. We have arranged these special services to afford an opportunity to our neighbors and friends to become better acquainted with us, and for us to become better acquainted with them.”

And now, 69 years later, our message has not changed, and the church is again offering an outdoor service as an outreach for the local communities, to let them know who we are and that we are still here to welcome everyone to our church community. We invite you to join us on August 21 to hear a special message and to hear and sing uplifting contemporary Christian music. A reception inside the church will follow. All are welcome!
