Madison (June 26, 2019) - Benjamin Henderson from Middletown, who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree (BM) in Organ Performance at the Eastman School of Music in the studio of Nathan Laube, will present a concert at The Lutheran Church of Madison. He is currently Organ Scholar at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, NY. A gifted musician, Ben—at his young age—is already an amazing, accomplished organist and destined for an outstanding career as a concert organist.

The concert will be held on Wednesday, July17, at 7 p.m., at The Lutheran Church of Madison, 9 Britton Lane (located at the west end of the Madison Town Green). The impressive and inspiring sounds that Ben can produce with the church’s Johannus digital organ rivals the sound of a pipe organ. According to Ben, “This will be a concert filled with expressive, virtuosic music featuring some masterworks of the Romantic and Early Contemporary time periods, with an original composition and a transcription of a Rossini Overture that you are sure to recognize.”

Ben was Assistant Youth Organist (Organ Scholar) at First Church of Christ in Wethersfield for three years, having studied organ with David Spicer for four years. During his high school years in Middletown, he was an accompanist for Middletown Public School Choirs and many other organizations, including the Wethersfield Teen Theater, GMChorale (Greater Middletown Chorale), and the Greater Meriden Chorale. In 2015, Ben was an organ soloist with the New Haven Symphony at the Bushnell in Hartford.

For two summers he was a recipient of the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ Scholarship, which allowed him to study with Alan Morrison, Peter Conte and Matthew Glandorf at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. During his time in Philadelphia, Ben had the opportunity to play the largest fully functioning pipe organ in the world – the Wanamaker Organ in the Grand Court of Macy’s Department Store. Ben has also had the opportunity to work with Isabelle Demers and Michel Bouvard in master classes. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Roberta Bitgood Scholarship for young organists from the New London Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

A freewill offering, which will benefit both Ben and the church’s 70th Anniversary Fund, will be gathered after his performance, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Contact the church at lcofmadison@aol.com or 203-245-4145 for further information.
