04/10/2019 12:00 AMYouth from Christ Episcopal Church Guilford hosted a pancake breakfast on March 24 and raised $1676.00 in support of the New York Haiti Project. The Rev. Sam Owen who heads the project, joined the congregation to preach and then offer a presentation highlighting the work his group has done in Martel helping the community build a much needed school church. Starting with a single space enclosed by rough timbers and corrugated metal, St. Luke’s School & Church now has its first permanent three-room schoolhouse for 75 students. Martel is three hours west of Port-au-Prince on Haiti’s southern peninsula; its residents are mostly subsistence farmers.
