Christ Episcopal Church Raises funds to help New York Haiti Project

Some Christ Church Sunday School children are pictured with the Rev. Sam Owen, founder of the New York Haiti Project and pastor of the Haitian Congregation of the Good Samaritan in the Bronx, New York.

Youth from Christ Episcopal Church Guilford hosted a pancake breakfast on March 24 and raised $1676.00 in support of the New York Haiti Project.  The Rev. Sam Owen who heads the project, joined the congregation to preach and then offer a presentation highlighting the work his group has done in Martel helping the community build a much needed school  church. Starting with a single space enclosed by rough timbers and corrugated metal, St. Luke’s School & Church now has its first permanent three-room schoolhouse for 75 students.  Martel is three hours west of Port-au-Prince on Haiti’s southern peninsula; its residents are mostly subsistence farmers.
