Robert Hale, Second Selectman, Town of Madison, joined Reverend Harrison West, Rector Christ Episcopal Church, Guilford, and Rabbi Stacy Offner, Temple Beth Tikvah, Madison, who represented the Madison and Guilford Clergy Association, at the April 2 installation of Reverend Jeanne Lloyd as minister of Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Society (SUUS) at the Mercy Center in Madison. The installation service featured members and their new minister agreeing to share ministry – “one of faith, love, justice, reason, and mutual respect.”

Other attending clergy were Rev. Carolyn Patierno, Senior Minister, and Rev. Caitlin O’Brien, Associate Minister of Religious Education, both from All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, New London; The Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull, Unitarian Universalist Church, Meriden; Rev. Laura Cavicchio, Chaplain and Bereavement Counselor, Sawtelle Family Hospice House, Reading, Massachusetts; Rev. Tracy Johnson, First Parish Unitarian Universalist, Brewster, Massachusetts; Rev. Maddie Sifantus, Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula, California; Rev. Josh Pawelek, Unitarian Universalist Society, East Manchester, Connecticut; Rev. Cathy Rion Starr, the Unitarian Society of Hartford, and Rev. Randall Spaulding, Oncology and Sickle Cell Chaplain at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Karen Bellevance-Grace represented the Unitarian Universalist Association, New England Region.

The presence of clergy from different faiths underscored the congregation’s call to its new minister: “Since we are not alone in our concern for social justice, we charge you to take a leadership role in working with other faith communities in the common struggle for justice, equality, and peace.”

Nathan Pawelek, SUUS Director of Lifespan Religious Education, composed and arranged music especially for the installation. He also conducted the SUUS orchestra, composed of youth and adult members.

Marc Deaton, international opera star and Madison resident, sang “Mystery” from the “Missa Gaia/Earth Mass” by the Paul Winter Consort, accompanied by Madison pianist, Emily Phillips.
