Blue Plate Radio Offers Scholarship to Branford HS Instrumental Music Student

BLUE PLATE RADIO ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP FOR DESERVING BRANFORD HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC STUDENT

Blue Plate Radio, Connecticut’s only full time commercial 24/7 jazz station, is pleased to announce a scholarship for a graduating Branford High School Instrumental Music student who will be continuing their music studies after graduation. A portion of the proceeds from the Blue Plate Radio Jazz Spring 2017 jazz series at Branford’s Local Kitchen and Beer Bar (the former SBC Brewery) will be used to fund the scholarship.

“I’ve always been involved in music,” says Ed Tankus, Blue Plate Radio’s president and owner. “My kids grew up with music and were involved in the instrumental music programs in Branford.

I have always tried to encourage music in our schools and through this scholarship, Blue Plate Radio and the Blue Plate Radio Jazz Series sponsors, hope to encourage and nurture our kids’ musical passions even more.” Said Ed Tankus

Since 2008, Blue Plate Radio has been playing a variety of smooth and contemporary jazz and has been organizing and promoting live jazz events throughout Connecticut. Tankus has emceed concerts at the world-renowned Berks Jazz Fest in Reading, Pennsylvania, the Hartford Jazz Festival, the legendary Blue Note in NYC, and beyond.

Blue Plate Radio founded the Branford Jazz Series in 2009 which now draws 3,000 - 4,000 attendees to the Branford green every Thursday night as a way to create an economic stimulus for the downtown area that was hit hard by the recession.

Blue Plate Radio also founded the very successful Jazz at HOME Restaurant series that brought world-class jazz stars and their bands into an intimate club setting in downtown Branford.
