That is what organizers of the new Shoreline Green Party say is what they hope to accomplish as they launch their new chapter of the Green Party here in Connecticut. The Shoreline Green Party will represent residents of Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Killingworth, Westbrook, Deep River, Chester, Essex, Old Saybrook, Lyme, Old Lyme, East Lyme, and Niantic.
They are inviting the public to attend the Grand Opening Launch Party-- 3:30pm Sunday Feb. 26th at the Steve Milton Community Room- 169 Main Street in Deep River. There will be festivities, speeches, refreshments and entertainment by singer-songwriter Hugh Birdsall.
The Shoreline Green Party is welcoming new members and will be holding monthly meetings 3:30pm on the third Sunday of every month at the Steve Milton Community Room- 169 Main Street in Deep River.
One of those involved, Colin Bennett runs Bennett’s Books in Deep River, and has run for State Senate on the Green Party line. He says he “prefers to call the Green Party a ‘preferred party’, not a ‘third party’”, noting that an incredible 58% of Americans want a new major party.
Shoreline Green Party Chairperson, Owen Charles of Madison, has served on his town’s Board of Finance and served on the Democratic Town Committee before joining the “DemExit” after the Democratic National Convention in August. He says that “after the past year of working hard on the Bernie Sanders campaign I know millions of people want a movement to get the big money out of politics and put the people back in”. He believes that a strong Green Party will give voice to this rising majority and empower a new generation that knows there is no future in politics-as-usual.
