Old Saybrook High School Awarded Continued Accreditation

The principal of Old Saybrook High School received a letter from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Committee on Public Secondary Schools (CPSS) informing her of the high school’s continued accreditation status. Membership in the accrediting association requires that schools participate in a 4-day evaluation process every ten years conducted by a committee of sixteen educators from around New England. The Committee’s decision to award continued accreditation status is a result of their review of the 52-page visiting committee report from the evaluation that was conducted last September. Old Saybrook High School spent three years preparing for the decennial visit by completing a comprehensive self-study in the areas of the required seven (7) standards: Core Values, Beliefs and Learning Expectations; Curriculum; Instruction; Assessment of and for Student Learning; School Culture and Leadership; School Resources for Learning; and Community Resources for Learning. The letter highlighted thirty (30) commendations of the school’s performance in each of the standard areas identified above, as well as ten (10) recommendations for improving school processes and programming moving forward. An additional requirement of member schools is to complete both a two-year and five-year report informing the CPSS of the school’s progress on the recommendations identified in the letter for continuing accreditation. Once the five-year report is submitted to the CPSS, the self-study process begins again in preparation for the next decennial visit and evaluation.

The students, faculty, staff and administration of Old Saybrook High School wish to thank the community for its continued support of teaching and learning in Old Saybrook.
