Can We Talk? Communicating with Confidence (a Workshop for Adults on February 19th)

Research shows that talking with your kids has a positive effect on their behavior and their relationships. Most parents dread talking to their kids about intimacy and dating, but it does make a big difference. We'll give you tips and skills to help you with these difficult conversations, so that you can have "The Talk" with confidence.

Why It Matters

*Approximately one in three teens have been the victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner.

*One in five 10-12 year olds know a victim of dating violence.

*Healthy parent-child communication leads to fewer sexual risk behaviors among adolescents.

During Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (the month of February), OSYFS staff and interns will be providing programs at the high school to talk to high school students about healthy versus abusive relationships. We'd like to share some of this important information with parents, so that they will be able to identify the warning signs.

On February 19th, OSYFS will present a free workshop "Can We Talk?" for adults from 6:45 - 8:00 pm in the OS High School Library. To register, please call OSYFS at 860-395-3190. Space is limited.
