Football Earns Blowout Victory, Volleyball Wins a Pair

Volleyball

The H-K volleyball team traveled to Morgan on Oct. 7 and won 3-0. Jayani Bennett and Lauren Wiese had nine kills each, and Ava Mazzotta had seven. Caley Napoletano had 17 kills, Mazzotta and Natanzon had 14 each, and Bennett had 12. Mazzotta also added 25 assists.

The team then hosted Coginchaug on Oct. 9 and won 3-0. Mazzotta had 10 kills, and Napoletano had 21 digs. Mazzotta had 18 digs, while Grace Natanzon had 13. Mazzotta added 22 assists.

Football

H-K football hosted Morgan-Old Saybrook-Westbrook on Oct. 10 and earned a big 43-0 win. Six different players scored touchdowns for the Cougars (4-1) in the victory. H-K rolled up over 400 yards of offense in the game, led by Gunnar Howes, who scored a touchdown and carried the ball eight times for 75 yards in the first half alone. Bryce LaCoss scored a rushing touchdown and threw touchdown passes to three different receivers.

Jacob Lamarre scored the other rushing touchdown for the Cougars, while Joseph Slane, Jamien Evans, and Ryan Rafferty were the recipients of LaCoss' touchdown passes. Rafferty added an interception for the Cougars.

“Overall, I'm pleased with the team's performance tonight,” said H-K Head Coach Tyler Wilcox. “We played the way we're capable of playing. We did have a few hiccups in the second half, but we have a bye week now to clean up the issues as we prepare for a good Coginchaug team in two weeks.”
