Softball Wins Three, Baseball Grabs Two Victories

Girls’ Tennis

H-K girls’ tennis began the season at Westbrook on April 1 and took a 7-0 loss. Catherine Nguyen competed at No. 1 singles, and Addison Burr was in the No. 2 singles spot. Lily Austin (No. 3) and Avery Maxwell (No. 4) were also singles competitors.

Competing at one doubles for the Cougars were Anna Pattilo and Evelyn Sargent. Riley Crotty and Hazel Doyle stood in the No. 2 doubles spot, and Maddie Ruocco and Myra Cortes competed at No. 3 doubles.

Baseball

H-K baseball traveled to Cromwell on April 1 and grabbed a 3-2 win. Blake Kamoen took the mound for the Cougars and struck out 11 batters, walked one, and scattered eight hits to lead the team to the win. Joey Salafia and Evan Aubin each recorded a double in the game.

The team hosted Morgan on April 5 and won 9-0. Matt Shea threw a two-hit shutout in six innings of work, striking out five batters. Joey Salafia and Luke Mauri each had two hits, and Todd Butler recorded two RBIs while scoring three times.

Boys’ Tennis

H-K boys’ tennis opened the season at home on April 1 vs. Westbrook and fell 7-0. Singles participants included Bryce Leiberman, Joe Wessinger, Chase Smalley, and Larson McLaughlin.

Softball

The H-K softball team started the season at home on March 30 vs. Westbrook/Old Saybrook and won 13-1. Caley Napoletano and Keira Czarkowski each went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Cheyenne LaTouche went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Ivy McNiel drove in two runs, while Annabelle Zajac (1-for-2) and Grace Natanzon drove in a run each. Emma Giaccone took the mound and gave up three hits and one earned run, while striking out six batters and walking three.

On April 1, the team traveled to Cromwell and won in commanding 20-0 fashion. Natanzon was selected the Player of the Game, as she went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, a double, and a triple. Napoletano also drove in three runs, as did Hannah Reilly, and Claire Eighmy drove in two. Kacey Coon, Czarkowski, Bella Richwine, Ava Harriman, and McNeil each drove in a run.

On the mound, Giaccone pitched four innings, gave up zero runs, and struck out eight batters. Richwine threw one inning and struck out two, also giving up no runs.

On April 5, H-K played host to Morgan and won 15-0. McNiel drove in five runs on three hits, including a double. Reilly went 2-2 with a triple and three RBIs, and Natanzon, Czarkowski, Zajac, and LaTouche each drove in a run in the victory. Giaccone got the win on the mound, as she pitched five innings and gave up two hits. She also struck out seven batters.
