Boys’ Basketball Wins on Senior Night, Girls’ Ice Hockey Wins Three Games


Boys’ Basketball

The H-K boys’ basketball team hosted North Branford on Feb. 6 and won 67-53 on Senior Night. It was the last home game for the careers of co-captains Blake Kamoen, Luke Mauri, and Bryce O’Linn, as well as Jonah Keithan-Resnick and Ryan Erskine. All five seniors started, while Mauri and O’Linn played only the opening tip off due to injury.

Three players reached double digits, which included Declan Moriarty with 19 points, Kamoen with 18 points, and Jay Evans with 16 points. Other point scorers included Andrew Crayton (six points), Joe Slane (one point), Erskine (three points), Noah Marica (two points), and Ethan Pitts (two points). Kamoen also recorded nine rebounds and four steals in the contest, while Crayton had five rebounds and eight assists. Moriarty also nailed down three 3-pointers.

The team then traveled to Hale Ray on Feb. 7 and walked away with a big 74-42 victory. Several players scored in double digits, including Kamoen (17 points), Moriarty (16 points), Crayton (14 points), and Evans (11 points). Slane contributed with six points, while Erskine added four. Kody Lehet scored four points in the win, and Brody Fersuson scored two. Kamoen also collected 13 points in the contest, and Crayton added five rebounds and three assists.

The Cougars closed out the week on Feb. 9 at Valley Regional, where they grabbed a 61-53 victory. Crayton and Kamoen scored 19 points each, followed by Evans with 12 points. Moriarty (five points), Erskine (four points), and Hosney (two points) also contributed. Kamoen also collected eight rebounds, and Crayton scored a three-pointer to put the Cougars up by five points with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter.

Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Hand girls’ ice hockey co-op team traveled to Amity/Cheshire/North Haven on Feb. 7 and recorded a 5-1 win. Hannah Rich opened the scoring for the Tigers, with an unassisted goal in the first period. Kendall Dobratz also scored a goal, assisted by Maggie DiNapoli. Reagan Wyrebek-Brasky recorded two goals in the contest. One was assisted by Dobratz, and the other was assisted by Daniella Spaniotis. Faith Minickene also added a score (assisted by Taylor Manchanda). Chloe Monaghan manned the net for Hand and recorded 26 saves.

On Feb. 8, the team hosted Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde and won 5-0. Minickene had two goals in the contest. One was assisted by Wyrebek-Brasky, and the other was assisted by Dobratz. Dobratz also added two goals and one assist. Her first score was assisted by Brooke Ouellette, and the second one was unassisted. Wyrebek-Brasky also added a goal, assisted by Minickene.

The Tigers closed out the week on Feb. 10, hosting Guilford Co-op and winning 5-1. Minickene scored two goals. The first one was assisted by Rich, and the second one was assisted by Wyrebek-Brasky. Dobratz added an unassisted goal, and Rich added a score, assisted by Dobratz. Wyrebek-Brasky added to the score, with Minickene on the assist.
