Girls’ Ice Hockey

The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven girls’ ice hockey team hosted Woodstock Academy Co-op on Dec. 20 and won 5-4 in overtime. Cadence Fasano recorded four goals in the contest for the Blades, and two of her scores were assisted by Maybelle Caron and Maura LeBreck. The third one was assisted by Lucy Dickenson and Emelia Brandi, and the fourth one was unassisted. Also scoring was Sophia Jimenez, assisted by Brianna Grimsley. Kylie Schwab recorded 28 saves in net, and Amity/Cheshire/North Haven improved its record to 3-1 on the season.

Wrestling

It was a night of firsts for the second-year North Haven wrestling team on Dec. 20. The Nighthawks unveiled their brand new wrestling mat for the first time, in their first ever home match at the North Haven High School (all of their home matches last year were held at the middle school). It was also the first time facing off against SCC rival, Cheshire.

After a slow start for North Haven that saw Cheshire win several of the early matches, and build a 15-6 lead, sophomore Hayden Minns turned the tide with a pivotal pin at 138 pounds, that made the match 15-12. Cheshire would win the next match to go up 21-12, but then the Nighthawks rose to the challenge by reeling off five straight victories, from 150 pounds up to 190 pounds.

Junior Luke Asbury secured a 4-0 victory at 150 pounds, followed by pins by junior Jace Iamunno at 157 pounds, junior Emilio Crocco at 165 pounds, junior Eli Ellis at 175 pounds, and junior captain Ty DiMauro at 190 pounds. Junior Joe Carbone sealed the victory for North Haven, with a decision at 285 pounds. North Haven won by a final score of 42-27, and had a great crowd for their first ever home match. The Nighthawks are now 1-1 on the season.
