North Haven Girls’ Soccer Splits the Week, Boys’ Soccer Wins Two

Football

On Oct. 6, North Haven football hosted Fairfield Prep and won 28-6.

Field Hockey

Field hockey took a 2-0 road loss vs. Branford on Oct. 3. Then, on Oct. 7, the team hosted Sacred Heart Academy and lost 2-0.

Girls’ Volleyball

Nighthawks volleyball traveled to Mercy on Oct. 2 and won 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22). Avery Berney had one ace, nine kills, and 15 digs. Alyssa Ferriouolo added three aces, one kill, and 20 digs, while Grace Battipaglia recorded four aces, 21 assists, and 11 digs.

The team then hit the road to Amity on Oct. 4 and lost 3-0.

They ended the week by hosting Sheehan on Oct. 6 and recording a 3-1 victory. Alyssa DiGiovanna had three aces, 13 kills, and 20 digs. Chandler Morris added 14 kills, two blocks, and nine digs, while Battipaglia had four aces, two kills, 33 assists, and 11 digs.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Haven girls’ soccer team traveled to Career/Hillhouse on Oct. 4 and won 9-0. On Oct. 7, the Nighthawks traveled to Jonathan Law and lost 1-0.

Boys’ Soccer

North Haven boys’ soccer grabbed a 6-4 home win vs. East Haven on Oct. 2. Two days later, the team traveled to Lyman Hall and recorded a 3-1 win. On Oct. 6, North Haven hit the road to Amity, where they fell 2-1.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

On Oct. 2, North Haven girls’ swimming and diving hosted Guilford, falling 92-81 in a hard fought meet. First place finishes for the Nighthawks included the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Madisen Karavas, Amelia Bautz, Avery Cullen, and Giada Garofalo (2:04.33), Scarlett Russek in the 100 backstroke (1:28.63). In that event, Russek was followed by Abigail Lorusso (1:39.14) and Kaili Wan (1:40.30). Bautz claimed first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.76). Angelina Valentino was second in that event (1:30.95) with Shen Wan following in third (2:01.83). The Nighthawks also took first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:33.87. The team was comprised of Karavas, Morgan Nunez, Bautz, and Garofalo.

On Oct. 5, the team hit the road to Cheshire and fell 88-77. Bautz took second place in the 50 yard freestyle (31.13). Riley Mattox scored 161.50 in the 1 meter dive, and the

200 yard freestyle relay team of Andrea Laborde, Wan, Lorusso, and Cullen won the race with a time of 2:23.17. Karavas took first place in the 100 backstroke (1:14.01) and Garofalo won the 100 breaststroke (1:27.19). Karavas, Bautz, Nunez, and Garofalo (4:36.49) won the 400 freestyle relay.
