Westbrook Girls’ Tennis Falls in State Final; Outdoor Track Shows Out on the Big Stage


Boys’ Tennis

Westbrook boys’ tennis entered the Class S State Tournament as the No. 8 seed. They took a first-round loss to No. 9 Suffield by a score of 5-2 on May 26.

Girls’ Tennis

Westbrook girls’ tennis was the No. 2 seed in the Class S State Tournament last week. In the first round on May 27, the Knights grabbed a 6-1 win over 15th-seeded Coginchaug. In the quarterfinal round on May 30, Westbrook took down No. 7 Bolton in 7-0 shutout fashion. The next day, the Knights faced No. 6 Shepaug Valley in the semifinals and grabbed a 4-3 win before falling 7-0 to Old Lyme in the finals on June 1.

Outdoor Track

The Westbrook boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams competed in the Shoreline Conference Championship on May 24. The boys tied for seventh place overall.

The 4x100 team of Vincent Naccarato, John Grace, James Grace and Brandon Naccarato (43.17) took first overall and were named First Team All-Conference. Brandon Naccarato also took second place in the 100 meter dash (10.88) and in the long jump (18’11.75). In the 200 meters, he claimed fifth with a time of 23.01. James Grace took sixth place in the 100 meters (11.34) and Vincent Naccarato took seventh in the javelin (138’5). Michael Von Ehr placed sixth in the javelin (140’1).

For the girls, Leticia Pires placed third in the triple jump (30’10”) and was an honorable mention to the All-Conference team. The 4x100 team of Pires, Mackenzie True, Jame Freis, and Kayla Prisley took sixth place (54.68). Halley Pierson placed second in the pole vault (9’0”) and was Second Team All-Conference. Ava Kaluski placed ninth in the discus (71’10) and Lily Freeman took ninth in the 1600 meters (5:52.77).

In the Class S State Championship on May 30, Vincent Naccarato took fourth in the javelin (138’4”) and Brandon Naccarato took fourth in the 100 meters (11.16). Michael Von Ehr placed eighth in the javelin (125’10”). Vincent and Brandon qualified for the State Open Championship on June 5.

For the girls, Halley Pierson took fourth in the pole vault (9’0) and also qualified for the State Open Championship on June 5.
