Shoreline Spartans Girls Fall in Championship Final

On May 25, the Shoreline Spartans girls’ rugby team hosted Fairfield, Staples, and North Haven for the Connecticut Rugby Division II High School Girls’ Championships at Morgan High School. In the first game, the Spartans beat Staples 12-5. Scoring for the Spartans were Carrigan Mack and Carlee Harwood, and Saylor Thomas made 1 of 2 conversions.

Game 2 featured Fairfield taking on North Haven. Fairfield secured the win with a 15-5 victory, putting them in the championship against the Spartans.

In the final, Fairfield beat the Spartans by a score of 17-12, with Carrigan Mack and Makenna Sullivan scoring tries and Saylor Thomas making 1 of 2 conversions in the loss. Staples beat North Haven in the consolation match.

Carrigan Mack, Carlee Harwood, and Makenna Sullivan were all selected to the Connecticut Rugby D2 All-State team.

The Shoreline Spartans girls’ rugby roster is comprised of Clinton’s Layla Dunn (captain), Tess Vallas, Aleia Aleman, and Skyla Ortiz; Westbrook’s Abby Demers; Carrigan Mack (Plainville); Guilford’s Sofia Greene (captain), Makenna Sullivan and Addi Smith; Maria Ceniglio of East Haddam; Killingworth’s Carlee Harwood, Bethany Harwood, and Emma Sirignano; Saylor Thomas of Haddam, and Jamie House of Higganum.
