Old Saybrook Boys’ Lacrosse Ends State Tournament Qualifying Drought; Baseball Falls in Second Round


Baseball

Old Saybrook baseball began the Class S State Tournament on May 30 as the No. 22 seed. They defeated 11th-seeded Oxford 13-5 in the first round before bowing out in the second round on May 31 to 6th-seeded Old Lyme by a score of 6-1.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Old Saybrook girls’ lacrosse entered the Class S State Tournament as the No. 11 seed. In the qualifying round on May 26, they defeated No. 22 Wolcott by a score of 19-7. Lila Cadley had two goals and one assist, Ayla D’Anna added one goal and two assists, and Maddie Beaudoin scored three goals. Laura Day contributed two goals and four assists while Gretchen Kawecki piled on six goals to go with two assists. Amelia Sigersmith also scored five times. Cali Morelli recorded six saves in net and Brianna Berdiales recorded eight.

In the first round on May 30, the Rams faced 6th-seeded Granby Memorial and lost 16-6. Lila Cadley, Maddie Beaudoin and Kendall Dobratz each scored a goal. Laura Day added two goals and Amelia Sigersmith had one goal and one assist. Cali Morelli made 18 saves.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Old Saybrook boys’ lacrosse was the No. 2 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and fell to No. 3 North Branford by a score of 11-10 in the semifinal round on May 22.

The All-Conference players for the Rams included Liam Roberts (First Team Attack), Brayden Cody (Second Team Attack), Aiden D’Anna (Second Team Midfield), Carson Percival (First Team Defense) and Wes Percival (Honorable Mention). Head Coach Jon Mason was named Shoreline Conference Coach of the Year. Old Saybrook also qualified for the Class S State Tournament as the No. 19 seed after a seven-year drought.

In the qualifying round on May 26, they fell to No. 14 Bacon Academy by a score of 11-8.

Girls’ Tennis

Old Saybrook girls’ tennis qualified for the Class S State Tournament as the No. 19 seed. In the qualifying round on May 26, the Rams faced 14th-seeded East Catholic and took a 6-1 loss.
