North Haven Softball Falls in State Quarterfinals; Boys’ Lacrosse Takes First-Round Loss


Softball

North Haven softball received a bye in the first round as the No. 1 seed in the Class L State Tournament. In the second round on May 31, they faced No. 16 Berlin and won 2-1 before bowing out to 9th-seeded Ellington in the quarterfinal round by a 1-0 score.

Baseball

North Haven baseball began state tournament play as the No. 15 seed in Class L. On May 30, they defeated 18th-ranked Rham by a score of 5-2 in the first round. In the second round the next day, the Nighthawks faced a strong East Lyme team, the No. 2 seed, and fell in a close 9-8 contest.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Last week, North Haven boys’ lacrosse played in the Class M State Tournament as the No. 14 seed and took a first-round loss on May 31 to No. 3 Notre Dame-West Haven by a score of 17-4.

Boys’ Tennis

North Haven boys’ tennis entered the Class M State Tournament as the No. 15 seed. In the qualifying round on May 26, they took a 5-2 win over 18-seeded Foran. Lucas de Lencastre (6-1, 6-4) and Minh Nguyen (6-1, 6-4) grabbed singles wins. The doubles pairings of Billy Lipinski/Jess Hansard (6-2, 6-0), Jack Segna/Nick Sabina (6-4, 6-0) and Evan Looney/Alex Ranciato (6-0, 6-2) recorded wins.

Facing 2-seeded Ellington in the first round on May 27, they fell 6-1. Lucas de Lencastre recorded a victory on the singles side (2-6, 7-6, 7-6).

Outdoor Track

The boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams participated in the Class MM State Championship on June 1. The boys finished 15th overall with a score of 19 and the girls placed 27th with a score of 2. Ethan Anderson was named First Team All-SCC for the shot put this spring (49-00) and Dillon Songhurst was named to the Second Team for the shot put.

Girls’ Tennis

North Haven girls’ tennis fell in state tournament action last week. After grabbing a 6-1 win as the 17 seed in the qualifying round over No. 16 Rockville on May 26, the Nighthawks then faced the No. 1 seed Farmington in the first round that same day and lost 5-2.

Boys’ Golf

North Haven boys’ golf competed in the SCC Championship on May 30, placing ninth overall with a team score of 349.
