Baseball grabbed a pair of back-to-back road wins last week. The team traveled to face Bloomfield/AAE/Bulkeley on May 16 in an 18-0 shutout victory. They visited Comp Sci on May 19 and recorded a 10-0 win. The Knights are now 4-16 for the season.
Boys’ Tennis
Boys’ tennis added a trio of wins last week with two victories coming on the road. They traveled to face Coginchaug on May 15 in a non-conference match, earning a 7-0 victory. On May 17, they returned home to play host to Portland in a 7-0 win, and on May 19, the team hit the road in a 7-0 win over Platt Tech. The Knights are now 14-5.
Softball
Softball’s challenging season continued with the team picking up back-to-back losses last week. The team traveled to face Coginchaug on May 16 and fell 15-2. Returning home on May 17, the Knights hosted Cromwell in a 16-0 loss. The team is now 4-17 for the season.
Girls’ Tennis
Girls’ tennis earned a win to close out regular season play last week. The Knights hosted Coginchaug on May 15, playing to a 6-1 victory. Singles players Delaney Belcourt (6-1,6-3), Ava Ciarcia (6-2,6-2), and Caroline Dias (6-0, 6-0) earned wins. The doubles duos of Olivia Palumbo and Adriana Stranieri (6-0,6-0), Giovanna Silva and Natalie Palumbo (6-0,6-1), and Gabby Spash and Norah Hayden (6-1, 6-3) recorded victories in the effort. The Knights ended the regular season with a 16-1 record.
Outdoor Track
On May 16, Westbrook boys’ and girls’ outdoor track traveled to Valley Regional for a tri-meet with Portland. For the boys, James Grace placed third in the 100 meters (11.3) and second in the 200 meters (23.0). Michael VonEhr claimed third in the javelin (122’7) and Hever Gomez won the 110 hurdles (18.0). Gomez also won the 300 hurdles (44.9). On the girls’ side, Ava Kaluski won the discus (72’4) and Halley Pierson won the pole vault (8’0). McKenzie True won the long jump (13’4.5) while Kayla Prisley took first in the 100 (13.6) and in the 200 (28.0). Lily Freeman claimed third place in the 800 (2:43) and in the 1600 (5:59). The girls’ 4x100 team consisting of McKenzie True, Jamie Freis, Leticia Pires and Kayla Prisley came in first place (43.9).
