Valley Softball Adds Two Wins; Boys’ Golf Falls in Tight Contest


Baseball

Baseball picked up the win in its sole contest of the week, defeating Bacon Academy on the road on May 15 16-0. The Warriors are now 14-6 on the season.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Girl’s lacrosse continued its challenging season, adding three more losses. They traveled to Haddam-Killingworth on May 16 for a 14-4 loss before returning home on May 17 to host Notre Dame Catholic in a narrow 20-19 loss. On May 18, the Warriors hosted Old Saybrook and lost lost 19-8. They are now 1-16 for the season.

Softball

Softball added two wins to their record last week to stop a six-game skid. On May 15, they hosted Hale Ray in a 12-5 victory. They hosted Windsor Locks on May 16, defeating the visitors 14-2. The Warriors are now 7-12 for the season.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The tough season continued for boys’ lacrosse, with the team taking two more losses. The Warriors hosted Haddam-Killingworth on May 16 in a 16-6 loss before traveling to Old Saybrook on May 18 for a narrow 13-10 defeat. The team is now 2-13 for the season.

Boys’ Golf

On May 18, Valley boys’ golf traveled to Haddam-Killingworth and took a 168-176 loss. Jake McKenna and Tyler Ruel both scored a 43 on the course. Kevin King and Will Kelly each scored a 45, and Owen Gallagher scored a 60.

Outdoor Track

On May 9, the Valley Regional boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams traveled to Haddam-Killingworth for a tri-meet with Morgan. The boys split the meet, defeating Morgan and losing to H-K. The boys were led by McKinnley Hartt, who was the winner of the jong jump (17’6), 100 meter dash (11.9), and had a third place finish in the high jump at 5’4. Other strong performances saw Kenny Batt run a personal best of 57’4 in the 400 and Sam Bourez with a personal best and first place finish in the shot put (38’9). Nathan Mezick scored a personal best in the pole vault with a vault of 8’ and Stephen Courcey qualified for Shorelines in the discus with a throw of 94’7.

At the Marty Roberts Invitational, the boys’ 4x 100 relay team (Jack Driscoll, Paul Giantonio, McKinnley Hartt, Aidan Babek) took home fifth place with a season best 45.80 finish. Paul Giantonio finished second overall in the high jump with a season and career best 6’0 jump.

Highlights for the girls included a scoring finish and PR from Rowan Herlihy in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.5. Freshman Madelyn Riebold won the 1600 with a time of 5:44.3. Other notables included Cambell Massey, who ran a PR and placed in both the 100 meter hurdles (18.5) the 300 hurdles (54.8) and a victory in pole vault (7’0), and Sam Vile, who placed in all three throwing events, throwing a PR and qualifying throw of 78’1” in the discus.

At the Marty Roberts Invitational, the Valley girls’ 4x800 team made up of Holly Board, Emilee Surber, Grace Abderhalden, and Madelyn Riebold received points after running an impressive time of 10:50.32.
