North Haven Softball Continues Perfection; Baseball Adds on Three More Wins


Softball

Softball’s perfect season continued last week. The team added three more wins to its impressive resume to bring the season record to 20-0. They hosted Hamden on May 15 in a 12-0 shutout victory. On May 16, they defeated Branford 14-0 at home. The Nighthawks hit the road on May 18, defeating Lyman Hall 9-1.

Baseball

Nighthawks baseball added a trio of wins to its resume, bringing their season record to 11-8. On May 15, the team hosted Branford in a 16-2 victory. Hitting the road to Wallingford on May 17, they defeated Lyman Hall 4-0. The following day, North Haven hosted North Branford and won 10-9.

Boys’ Tennis

Boys’ tennis grabbed two wins and picked up a loss last week to bring their season record to .500. The Nighthawks traveled to Shelton on May 15 in a 5-2 defeat. Lucas de Lencastre (6-3, 6-4) earned a victory in singles play while the doubles pairing of Evan Looney/Alex Ranciato (6-1, 6-2) also picked up a win.

On May 16, they played host to Foran, earning a 5-2 win. Singles players de Lencastre (6-0, 6-0), Seth Tobin (6-3, 6-2), Jack Segna (6-4, 3-6, 6-4), and Parthiv Patel (7-5, 7-5) picked up wins in the effort. In doubles, Looney/Ranciato (6-2, 6-1) added a victory.

The team traveled to West Haven on May 18, picking up a 5-2 victory. de Lencastre (6-0, 6-0) and Minh Nguyen (6-0,6-1) added wins, and in doubles, Jess Hansard/Billy Lipinski (6-2, 6-2), Looney/Ranciato (6-4, 7-5), and Oscar Hammarlund/Jonathan Chin (5-7, 6-2, 6-2) added wins.

They are now 10-10 for the season.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The tough season continued for girls’ lacrosse, with the team taking two more losses. They hosted Guilford on May 15, falling to the visitors 19-6. On May 17, they played host to West Haven for their senior night and season finale, taking a narrow 14-13 loss. They proudly celebrated the career achievements of their six seniors: Gabby Barry, Aisling Pretty, Ava Huntley, Sarah Herrera, Teresa Consorte and Chloe Panaroni.

The Nighthawks jumped out to an early lead by goals from juniors Maddie Karavas (3), Catherine Bianchi (2) and Nola Coyle (2). The Westies battled back and after tallies by junior Sydney Pitcher and sophomore Kendall Washington, the game was knotted at 9 at the half. Gabby Barry had eight saves in the first half.

The second half was more of a defensive effort. Pretty, Huntley and Consorte anchored the back line, assisted by juniors Ava Chagnon, Kiley Pollard and sophomore Olivia Holovach. Bianchi, Karavas and Coyle (2) added second half tallies. Junior Grace Martin had two assists on those North Haven goals. The Nighthawks are now 1-15 for the season.

Girls’ Tennis

Girls’ tennis grabbed three wins last week and suffered a loss in a match on the road to bring their season record to .500. They started the week traveling to Jonathan Law for a 5-2 victory on May 16. On May 17, the Nighthawks hosted Wilcox Tech in a 7-0 shutout victory before hosting Sheehan in a 6-1 win on May 18. Returning to the road, the team traveled to Cheshire on May 20, falling to their hosts 6-1. The Nighthawks are now 9-9.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boy’s lacrosse split the week, taking both a win and a loss at home. The team hosted Cheshire on May 16 and suffered a 24-4 defeat. On May 18, they defeated Waterford 7-6. The Nighthawks are now 9-7 for the season.
