Morgan Boys’ Tennis, Boys’ Lacrosse Win a Pair

Baseball

Baseball grabbed a win in its sole contest last week, defeating Portland 8-7 on May 15. The Huskies are 9-11 for the season.

Boys’ Tennis

Boys’ tennis picked up a 7-0 win on May 15 on the road at Cromwell. In singles, Joe Morse (6-0, 6-0), Matt Lopez (7-6, 6-2), Steven Kinser (6-2, 6-1), and Oliver Baker (6-3, 6-2) picked up wins. The doubles pairings of Baker/Nicholas Vetrano (6-2, 7-5), Ryder Watson/Ryan Gray (6-1, 6-0), and Noah Borkowski/Darren Abbott (forfeit) earned victories. The Huskies then traveled to Coginchaug on May 17 and grabbed another 7-0 win. The team is now 15-1.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Girls’ lacrosse picked up a pair of wins last week. The team played to a 7-6 overtime victory over Haddam-KIllingworth on the road on May 15. They returned home on May 17 to defeat visiting Cromwell 15-7. The Huskies are 5-11 for the season.

Softball

The tough season continued for softball with the team recording two back-to-back losses. The Huskies hosted Old Lyme on May 17, falling to the visitors 9-1. On May 19, they fell on the road to Hale Ray 18-9. The team is now 3-17.

Girls’ Tennis

Girls’ tennis ended its regular season by picking up a win at home. The team hosted Cromwell on May 15 in a 5-2 victory. The Huskies are 9-8.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boys’ lacrosse added two more wins last week, defeating Stonington at home 11-8 on May 16. The next day, they traveled to Cromwell and won 9-2. The team is now 10-5 for the season.

Golf

Morgan golf played two matches last week. On May 16, they traveled to old Saybrook and lost 155-177. Jack Nye scored a 40 on the course. Patrick O’Neil followed with a 42 and Ray Swan scored a 47. Robert Bergman scored a 48. On May 18, the team hit the road again to Fitch and grabbed a 183-201 win. Ray Swan led the way with a 43. followed by Jack Nye with a 44. Sean Davis and Robert Bergman both scored a 48. The team is now 5-12 on the season.

Outdoor Track

On May 16, Morgan boys’ and girls’ outdoor track hosted Coginchaug and East Hampton in a tri-meet. For the boys, Michael Fusco placed third in the 100 meter dash (11.7) and first in the 200 (23.6). He also won the 400 meters with a time of 54.0. In the 800, Trevor Leach placed third (2:24.7) and Kaleb Richardson took fifth (2:30.0). Richardson also placed third in the 1600 (5:22.0). Owen Lombardi placed second in the 3200 meters (11:53.4). Robby Estabrook won the javelin throw (154’5) and teammate Mason Jakober took seventh (96’4). Carter Hayash (17’1.5) placed fifth in the long jump. In the triple jump, Estabrook (32’10) and Hayash (32’3.75) took seventh and eighth place, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Morgan decorated the scoreboard in the 100 meters. Caeley Ayer (12.9) took second place, Anastasia Luke (13.2) took fourth place, Julia White (13.5) took fifth place and Logan Pernal (13.7) took sixth. Riley Febbroriello 13.7), Glenda Zhiminaicela (13.8) and Olivia Ruotolo (13.8) also finished in the top 10. White also placed third in the 200 (28.0) with Febbroriello right behind in fourth (28.1). Kate Gardner (29.3) and Karla Duque (29.6) placed ninth and tenth, respectively. White also took second in the 400 (1:04.0) and Zhiminaicela took third (1:06.1). Zhiminaicela won the 800 (2:43.0) and Addison Reed won the 1600 (5:51.6). Natalie Estabrook placed third in that event with a time of 6:15.8. Olivia Ruotolo took second in the 100 meter hurdles (17.2) and Anastasia Luke won the 300 meter hurdles (50.9).

Ashley Inglis placed third in the high jump (4’8) and first in the long jump (15’1.75). Kaydence Koloskie-Phelps was right behind her in the long jump (14’11.75) followed by Anastasia Luke (14’11) and Caeley Ayer (14’9.25). Koloskie-Phelps won the triple jump (30’8) and Gabriella Navarra took third (27’4). Lily Tanner claimed fifth in the event (25’4). Destiny Rehberg placed seventh in shot put (26’8.5), ninth in discus (48’8) and fourth in javelin (92’3).

On May 18, the team competed in the Shoreline Novice Meet. Kaleb Richardson received an award for placing third in the boys’ 1600 meters (5:34.28) and Mason Jakober received one for placing third in the boys’ javelin (109’01.00).
