Nighthawks baseball split the week, adding a win on the road and a loss at home. On April 24, the team traveled to Branford for a 6-2 win. They returned home on April 28 to host East Haven, falling in a 5-1 loss. The team is now 5-7 for the season.
Boys’ Tennis
Boys’ tennis posted two wins and a loss last week, improving their season record to 3-8.
On April 24, the team traveled to take on Sheehan and recorded a 4-3 victory. In singles play, Lucas de Lencastre went 6-2 and 6-1, Minh Nguyen went 6-1 and 6-4, and Parthiv Patel won 7-5 and 6-4. In doubles, the duo of Evan Looney and Alex Ranciato won 6-2 and 6-4. On April 25, they hosted Branford for a 2-5 loss. In singles, Patel won 6-1 and 7-6. In doubles, Jess Hansard and Billy Lipinski went 7-5, 3-6, and 10-4 in a super tiebreak.
The team traveled to Guilford on April 28 for a 4-3 victory. In singles, de Lencastre went 6-2 and 6-1, Jack Segna went 6-2 and 6-3, and Patel won 6-3 and 6-0. In doubles, Looney and Ranciato posted 6-3 and 6-0 victories.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The tough season continues for Nighthawks girls’ lacrosse. The team recorded three losses last week to bring its season record to 0-9.
They traveled to Milford on April 24, losing in a 15-9 decision. The Nighthawks returned home on April 27, falling to Berlin in a narrow 15-13 loss. Goals by juniors Maddie Karavas, Sydney Pitcher, Nola Coyle and Catherine Bianchi kept the Nighthawks in contention 4-6 at the half. Goaltender Gabby Barry kept pace for North Haven with eight first half saves.
The pace and the scoring really picked up in the second half. Two unfortunate penalties for the Nighthawks led to six Berlin goals, putting the home team in a hole. Undaunted, the Nighthawks responded. Coyle tallied five scores in the second half and Pitcher, Bianchi, Karavas and fellow junior Ava Salzano got the Nighthawks back in contention.
On April 29, they hosted Brookfield in a 14-2 loss.
Softball
The perfect season continues for Nighthawks softball. The team posted three wins last week to bring their season record to 12-0.
They traveled to Branford on April 24 in a 15-5 victory. Ava Ferriouolo and Avery Berney each had two hits and Emila Brandi had a hit and two RBIs.
The team returned home on April 26 to host Lauralton Hall in a 19-7 win. The Nighthawks came back from behind in the fifth inning after a three-run homerun by Kayla Balisciano. Alex Anquillare then followed with a solo homerun. To keep the momentum up for North Haven, Gabby Blanchard had three hits and six RBIs. The girls continued to be aggressive on the base path with nine stolen bases, including three by Maria Lockery, who also hit the walkoff hit to finish the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
On April 28, they hosted Shelton, defeating the visitors 13-1.
Girls’ Tennis
Girls’ tennis picked up a pair of wins last week, defeating Shelton on the road and Branford at home.
On April 24, they traveled to Shelton in a 5-2 victory. They returned home on April 28 to host Branford in a 5-2 win. For singles, Anna Hansard grabbed two 6-2 victories, and Risa Tobin won 6-1 twice. Emily Cerasoli snagged two 6-0 wins. For doubles, Chandler Morris & Samantha Ide won 6-3 and 6-4, and Samantha Adams & Rachel Adams won 6-1 and 6-2. The Nighthawks are now 4-4.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Boys’ lacrosse added a win and a loss to its season record last week. On April 25, the team hosted Lyman Hall in a 9-5 overtime win. They hosted Farmington on April 29, falling to the visitors 11-8. The Nighthawks are now 5-3.
