Morgan Baseball Wins Three Straight; Track and Field Shines at Invitational Meet


Softball

Softball continued its tough season, taking a pair of back-to-back losses to bring the season record to 0-8. On April 17, the team hosted Granby Memorial in a 12-5 loss. On April 18, Hale Ray came to town, defeating their hosts 11-4.

Baseball

Huskies baseball picked up three back-to-back wins last week. On April 18, the team traveled to Moodus to take on Hale Ray in a 16-2 victory. They picked up a 8-7 victory at home on April 20 against Westbrook, and grabbed a narrow 10-9 win at home against East Catholic. The Huskies are now 5-6 for the season.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Boys’ lacrosse split the week, taking both a win and loss at home and another loss on the road. On April 18, the team hosted Cromwell in a 3-2 victory. On April 20, they hosted North Branford, falling in a narrow 9-8 loss. They traveled to Foran on April 22, losing 5-12. The team is now 4-3 for the season.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Girls’ lacrosse stole a win on the road, while posting two losses. The team started the week on the road at Cromwell to post a 15-3 victory on April 18. They traveled to North Branford on April 20, recording a 12-8 loss, and traveled to Somers on April 22 in a 13-4 loss. The Huskies are now 2-6 for the season.

Boys’ Tennis

Boys’ tennis took a close 4-3 loss at home on April 19 against Old Lyme. Matt Lopez picked up a 6-4 and 6-3 victory in singles play, and Nicholas Bausch earned a 6-2 and 6-4 win. In doubles, Erik Barrera and Noah Borkowski took a pair of 6-3 victories. They are now 4-1 on the season.

Girls’ Tennis

On April 19 girls’ tennis traveled to Old Lyme and took a 7-0 loss.

Golf

Morgan golf hosted Cromwell and Fitch on April 17 and Cromwell won with a 168 score. Morgan scored a 198 and Fitch followed with a 207.

The Huskies then hosted Branford on April 18 and lost 155-198.

On April 20, Morgan traveled to Valley Regional and fell 183-194. Jack Nye scored a 44 and Raymond Swan Jr. recorded a 46. Sean Davis followed with a score of 50 while Robert Bergman scored 54 and Patrick O’Neil scored 62.

Outdoor Track

The Morgan boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams participated in an invitational meet at Lyme-Old Lyme High School on April 21-22.

On the boys’ side, Robby Estabrook won the javelin while setting a new school record (152-08). Mason Jakober (88-04) and Hayden Walter (62-04) placed 17th and 19th, respectively. The boys’ javelin combined score earned them third place overall at the meet. Owen Lombardi took 10th place in the 3200 meter run (12:02.20).

The 4x100 relay team of Aidan Campion, Mark Rodriguez, Carter Hayash and Michael Fusco (49.29) took eighth place. The sprint medley relay team of Campion, Rodriguez, Fusco and Trevor Leach took fifth place (4:15.59).

For the girls, Natalie Estabrook took ninth place in the 3200 (13:39.03). The 4x100 relay team comprised of Logan Pernal, Riley Febbroriello, Anastasia Luke and Caeley Ayer took fifth place (54.26). The 4x400 relay team of Karla Duque, Lili Torres, Avery Vece and Eve Gardner recorded a time of 5:02.24 for 11th place. The sprint medley relay team (Pernal, Febbroriello, Julia White and Estabrook) (4:47.28) took sixth place, and the 4000 meter distance medley relay team (Sophie Morello, Luke, Kate Gardner and Addy Reed) took fifth place with a time of 14:34.22.

Ashley Inglis came in 10th in the high jump (4-02.00) and seventh in the long jump (14-05.50). Destiny Rehberg claimed third place in the javelin (83-00).
