On March 5, more than a dozen athletes from the Guilford High School rowing team took part in the Shoreline Penguin Plunge fundraiser at Eastern Point Beach in Groton.

The plunge into the icy waters of Long Island Sound helps to support more than 12,000 athletes of all abilities who participate in the sports training and competitions of the Special Olympics Connecticut. The “Ergs and Icebergs” Guilford crew was the plunge’s top fundraising team for the second consecutive year, raising $6,101.

The Guilford rowers who raised funds were seniors Christian Cuozzo, Ashlyn Garrick, Katherine Hicks, Hailey Hutchison, and Panorea Vasiliou, as well as sophomores Tyle Case, Colton DeBoda, Kiera Dimartino, Tea Hawkes, Mattea Jerbi, John Lay, Kerinne Marinis, Jenna Marra, Ava Meglio, Valentina Miller, Addi Smith, and Raffaele Valentino.
