Yellowjackets Boys’ Ice Hockey Co-op Dominates in Two Home Victories

On Jan. 4, the East Haven co-op boys’ ice hockey team faced Branford at home, winning by a score of 6-2. The first period was where the Yellowjackets showed the most dominance, as they outscored Branford 3-1.

Mike Savo opened up the scoring at the 4:07 mark of the first period, with assists going to John D’Albero and Griffin McGlinchey. Branford’s Matthew Morgan evened the contest at the 7:54 mark, with a goal assisted by Mike Farricelli. Shortly after that, at the 8:55 mark, John D’Albero found the net for a score. Tyler Weinzimmer and Griffin McGlinchey assisted. At the 11:25 mark, Griffin McGlinchey padded the Yellowjackets’ lead, with John D’Albero and Mike Savo assisting.

In the second period, Jack Linder scored a Power Play goal, assisted by Matthew Morgan, to bring the Hornets within one. It didn’t last long, however, as Mike Savo knocked in his second goal of the game at the 13:44 mark, with Griffin McGlinchey and John D’Albero being credited with the assists.

It was all Yellowjackets in the third period, as they tacked on two more goals and holding Branford to zero. Tyler Weinzimmer scored at the 1:39 mark, assisted by Nick Ruggiero. At 14:21, Nick Perillo found the net to ice the game, with Matthew Penn recording the assist.

Jon-Paul Garea manned the net for East Haven, recording 28 saves on only two goals allowed.

The Yellowjackets then faced Glastonbury at home on Jan. 7, winning the game by a 3-1 score. Mike Savo opened up the scoring at 7:06 of the first period, with Griffin McGlinchey and John D’Albero on the assists. East Haven headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

The second period was very competitive defensively, as neither team scored on ten shots on goal for Glastonbury, and 12 for East Haven.

Mike Savo recorded his second goal of the game at the 13:37 mark of the third period, with John D’Albero on the asisst again. This gave the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead. At the 11:56 mark, Benjamin Howey got Glastonbury on the board with a goal assisted by Michael Rodriguez and Seam Humpfner. Tyler Weinzimmer put the icing on the cake with an empty net goal at the 0:03 mark of the game.

Jon-Paul Garea allowed only one goal in net, while recording 36 saves.
