Warriors Girls’ Basketball Rolling on the Winning Side

On Dec. 15, the Valley Regional girls’ basketball team opened their season at home vs. North Branford. It was a back and forth contest, but ultimately, the Warriors prevailed, winning the game by a score of 67-54. Lily Grow led the scoring for Valley with 23 points. Abby Bradbury followed with 15 points, and Regan Grow had 13 points. Siena Schaller knocked in eight points, and Olivia Cunningham and Elizabeth Allen each had four.

The team then headed to Haddam-Killingworth on Dec. 17, and won the contest in dominant fashion, with the final score being 57-22 in Valley’s favor. Regan Grow had 16 points, Abby Bradbury had 11 points, and Olivia Cunningham had ten points. Lily Grow recorded eight points while Elizabeth Allen had five. Siena Schaller got on the board with four points, Sharmel Rivera added two, and Ella Smith knocked in a free throw for a point. Valley’s third quarter ultimately secured the win, as they scored 18 points as a team in that period.

The Warriors took their first loss of the season in a contest at home vs. East Hampton on Dec. 20. The game ended with a 74-50 score.

In basketball, it is important to win each individual quarter, and East Hampton did just that, as they outscored the Warriors 20-16, 26-11, and 16-11 in the first three quarters, respectively. Both teams scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.

On the Valley side, Abby Bradbury provided productive offense, recording 14 points and went 3-5 from the free throw line. Lily Grow and Regan Grow had 13 points a piece, and Olivia Cunningham had eight points. Elizabeth Allen added two points of her own.

On Dec. 28, Valley hosted Northwest Catholic in the Valley Regional Holiday Tournament. The Warriors played a close, competitive game, but ultimately fell by a final score of 45-42. The Lions dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 29 points to secure the victory.

Lily Grow led the scoring for Valley with 13, followed by Regan Grow with ten. Olivia Cunningham added eight points and Elizabeth Allen tacked on six. Abby Bradbury had the finishing touches with five points.

The Warriors continued in the Valley Regional Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29, collecting a 65-57 win over Ledyard. Abby Bradbury and Lily Grow shined offensively in the game, scoring 21 and 20 points, respectively. Bradbury also finished with a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Regan Grow also added ten points, Olivia Cunningham had nine points, and Elizabeth Allen found the basket for five.
