Morgan Girls’ Soccer Posts 6-0 Shutout Over East Hampton; Boys’ Soccer Gains a Split of Two Games

Girls’ Soccer

The Morgan girls’ soccer team hosted East Hampton for its lone game of the week on Sept. 21. The Huskies notched a 6-0 victory over the Bellringers at the Indian River Complex to boost their overall record to 4-1-1 on the season.

Junior Maeve Madura scored on an assist by senior Caeley Ayer to give Morgan a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of the game. Ayer scored from senior Emily Smith to make the score 2-0 at halftime.

Ayer netted an unassisted goal for her second of the night and a 3-0 Huskies’ advantage in the 50th minute of the contest. Freshman Ainsley Lyon scored from senior Eve Gardner to make it 4-0 in the 70th minute.

Five minutes later, sophomore Melanie Pugo scored from freshman Sadie Passante to stake Morgan to a 5-0 command. Freshman Riley Febbroriello scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute of the contest to put a bow on the 6-0 victory. The scores by Lyon and Febbroriello marked the first varsity goal for each of them in their high school career.

Junior Samantha Way and sophomore Liliana Novicki both saw time in goal for the Huskies. Each keeper made 1 save to combine for the shutout in net.

Morgan’s next contest is a road game versus Old Saybrook on Friday, Sept. 30. The game gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at Old Saybrook High School.

Boys’ Soccer

The Morgan boys’ soccer team is now 5-1 on the season after gaining a split of its two matchups last week. The Huskies earned a shutout victory versus North Branford and then took a one-goal loss to East Hampton in recent action.

Morgan kicked off its week by posting an 8-0 shutout against North Branford in a home game on Sept. 20. Senior Matt Lopez scored 2 goals for Morgan, while fellow senior Sebastian Kadlof scored 1 goal to go with 2 assists in the victory. Sophomore Carlos Olivia and freshman Jeremy Medranda both had 1 goal and 1 assist.

The Huskies also received goals from senior Steve Kinser, junior Oscar Serrano, and sophomore Gavin Baptista in the win. Senior Joe Morse and freshman Emiliano Miranda both had an assist. Junior Jack Bousquet played goalie for Morgan in the game.

Then on Sept. 23, the Huskies faced East Hampton on the road and took a 1-0 defeat to the Bellringers. East Hampton scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Freshman Liam Tottem played net and made 1 save for the Huskies.

Morgan is playing a game at Norwich Free Academy on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. The Huskies will then come back home to host Old Saybrook at the Indian River Complex on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 3:45 p.m.

Field Hockey

The Morgan field hockey team played home games versus two Shoreline Conference opponents last week. The Huskies took two defeats, including one loss in overtime, to put their overall record at 1-4-0-1 this season.

Morgan took a 6-0 home loss to North Branford in its first game of the week on Sept. 19. Then on Sept. 22, the Huskies hosted Westbrook-Old Lyme and lost the contest by a 2-1 score in overtime at the Indian River Complex.

Morgan is playing a home game against Old Saybrook at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. The Huskies will be back at the Indian River Complex to host Valley Regional on Monday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.

Girls’ Volleyball

The Morgan girls’ volleyball squad hit the court to play two matches last week. The Huskies took losses in both contests and are now 1-5 on the year.

Morgan took a 3-0 road loss against Hale-Ray on Sept. 19. Two days later, the Huskies hosted Coginchaug and dropped a 3-2 decision versus the Blue Devils.

The Huskies are playing a home match versus Haddam-Killingworth at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Morgan will then face Old Lyme on the road on Monday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Football

The Morgan football team traveled to Deep River to face Valley Regional-Old Lyme in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division contest on Sept. 23. The Huskies took a 48-0 loss the Warriors at Valley Regional High School to move to 1-2 overall with a divisional record of 1-2 this year.

Morgan’s next contest is a home game versus divisional opponent Capital-Achievement (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 30. The game gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Peters Complex in Clinton.
