Valley Girls’ Soccer Notches a Couple of Ties; Field Hockey Gets a Win and a Draw

Girls’ Soccer

The Valley Regional girls’ soccer team had two games on its schedule last week and came away with a pair of ties to move to 1-0-2 on the year. Valley earned draws versus East Hampton and Valley Regional in recent action.

In their first game of the week, the Warriors hosted East Hampton and battled the Bellringers to a 2-2 tie on Sept. 12. Senior Isabella Giuliano scored one of Valley’s goals on an assist by senior Reagan Doyon. Senior Kendra Cika netted the other goal for the Warriors with a helper from senior Grace Abderhalden. Senior Elizabeth Allen made 8 saves in goal for Valley Regional.

The day after that, Valley played a road game against Old Saybrook and the contest ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Allen came up with 11 saves to get the shutout in net for the Warriors.

Valley is playing two road games this week. The Warriors are on the road to face Portland on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. and will then play at Woodstock Academy on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

Boys’ Soccer

The Valley Regional boys’ soccer team took two defeats last week to put its record at 1-2 on the young season. The Warriors lost contests against East Hampton and Old Saybrook in last week’s matchups.

On Sept. 14, Valley played a road game versus East Hampton and took a 6-1 defeat to the Bellringers. The following day, the Warriors hosted Old Saybrook and lost to the Rams by a 6-0 score at Valley Regional High School.

Valley is hosting Portland for its next game on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 3:45 p.m. After that, the Warriors are playing at Old Saybrook at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 and will then host Morgan on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 3:45 p.m

Field Hockey

The Valley Regional field hockey team played a pair of games against Shoreline Conference rivals last week and came away with a win and a tie between the two contests. The Warriors notched a victory over Morgan and then played Westbrook-Old Lyme to a draw in last week’s action, putting their record at 1-1-1 on the season.

Valley began its week by claiming a 1-0 home victory versus Morgan on Sept. 12. Then on Sept. 16, the Warriors hosted the Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op team and played the Knights to a 0-0 tie. Senior goalie Fallyn Belisle made 17 saves in net for Valley Regional.

Girls’ Volleyball

The Valley Regional girls’ volleyball team had matches against Hale-Ray and Morgan on its schedule last week. The Warriors finished with a split of the set by taking a defeat to Hale-Ray and then earning a win versus Morgan to move to 1-3 this season.

On Sept. 12, Valley played a road match against Hale-Ray and took a 3-0 loss in the contest. The Noises won the matchup by the final tally of 25-16, 25-21, 25-11.

Then on Sept. 14, the Warriors hosted Morgan and posted a 3-0 shutout over the Huskies to pick up their first victory of the year. Valley swept the Huskies by a 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 score to secure its mark in the win column this fall.

Valley is hosting Old Lyme for its next contest at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Warriors will then play a road game versus North Branford on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Old Lyme-Valley Regional-Old Saybrook girls’ swimming and diving team started began its fall season with a road meet versus Haddam-Killingworth last week. The Wildcats 90-77 defeat versus the Cougars at H-K High School to start off the year at 0-1.
