Madison Senior Legion Completes Regular Season, Competes in States

The Madison Senior American Legion 19-U baseball team finished its regular season by taking two of its final three games last week and then opened play in the State Tournament over the weekend. Post 79 lost its first matchup of the double-elimination bracket, but bounced back to notch a victory in its second contest to stay alive in states with an overall record of 12-8.

Madison earned a win versus New Haven before splitting two games against Branford to close out regular-season play. Post 79 notched a record of 11-7 in the regular season to finish in third place for the Zone 2 standings this summer.

On July 11, Madison played a road game versus New Haven and triumphed by the score of 10-0 at West Rock Field. The next, Post 79 faced Branford on the road and took a 9-2 loss in the contest. Then on July 13, Madison hosted Branford for its regular-season finale and claimed a 9-1 win at Town Campus Field.

Following the regular season, Madison participated in the State Tournament last weekend, competing in the Southern Division portion of the draw. In its first game, Post 79 took a 10-5 home loss against Westport and Town Campus Field on July 16. The next day, Madison hosted Glastonbury in an elimination game for both teams and triumphed by the final score of 7-3 to advance to a rematch versus Westport.

Madison is facing Westport at Town Campus Field on Tuesday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m. If Post 79 wins, it would play at Stamford in its next game on Wednesday, July 20 and would have to win that contest and then defeat Stamford again in order to advance to the next phase of the State Tournament, the Super Regional. The State Tournament culminates with the championship series at Palmer Field in Middletown on Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30.
