Branford Senior Legion Competes in States


The Branford Senior American Legion 19-U baseball team picked up a few victories during the final week of its regular season and then competed in the State Tournament last weekend. Branford took a loss to Trumbull in its first game of the state tourney before losing to Mossup in its second contest of the double-elimination bracket, finishing the year with an overall record of 5-15.

Prior to playing in states, Branford swept a three-game series versus New Haven and then split two games against Madison during the last week of regular-season action. Post 83 completed its regular season with an overall record of 5-13.

First, Post 83 took both ends of a doubleheader with New Haven at Branford High School on July 9. Head Coach Kyle Heins’s squad claimed an 8-4 win in the first game of the set and then triumphed by a 11-0 final in the nightcap. The following day, Branford faced New Haven on the road and notched a 17-3 victory at West Rock Field in the final game of the series.

On July 12, Post 83 hosted Madison and won the contest by the score of 9-2 at Branford High School. The day after that, Post 83 took a 9-1 road loss to Madison in its regular-season finale at Town Campus Field.

Following the regular season, Branford went on to participate in the State Tournament. Competing in the Southern Division portion of the double-elimination draw, Branford dropped a 7-4 decision at Trumbull for its opening game in states on July 17. The day after that, Post 83 hosted Moosup for an elimination game at Branford High School and took a 2-1 defeat in the contest.
