Morgan Girls’ Tennis Wins Close One in Opener; Baseball Takes Loss to East Hampton

The Morgan girls’ tennis team commenced its campaign with a road match against North Branford last week. The Huskies came away with a victory and improved their record to 1-0 to begin the year.
On April 10, Morgan claimed a 4-3 win over the Thunderbirds, and were mostly bolstered on the doubles court.
Morgan’s lone singles victory came from Sofia Felgate at the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-2 win in her match. As for the doubles court, the No. 1 duo of Maggie O’Donnell and Mia DiMetro won a 6-0, 6-2 match, while the No. 2 tandem of Sara Morrissey and Gavin Gersz claimed a 6-1, 6-3 triumph. At the No. 3 spot, Ava Johnson and Riley Schmidt swept the match at 6-0, 6-0.
Baseball
The Huskies opened the 2021 season with an away game against East Hampton. Morgan dropped the contest against the Bellringers, and its record fell to 0-1 to start the campaign.
On April 10, the Huskies lost a 3-1 contest against East Hampton. East Hampton put the first runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning. The Bellringers plated a pair of runs in the frame. The Huskies cut into the lead by scoring a run in the top of the fourth inning, but East Hampton got back to a two-run advantage with another run in the bottom of the sixth.
Morgan tallied three hits to East Hampton’s four. Morgan also had a couple of errors in the loss.
