Boys’ Hoops Gets Win Over North Branford as H-K Begins Winter Campaign
Boys’ Basketball
The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team started up its 2021 campaign by gaining a split of its first two contests. The Cougars lost to Cromwell in their opener, but then bounced back with a lopsided victory over North Branford.
H-K took a 62-39 defeat at Cromwell in its first game of the season on Feb. 10. Senior captain Chase O’Linn scored nine points for the Cougars. Fellow senior captain Jimmy McGoey had five points and five rebounds in the loss.
Two days later, H-K hosted North Branford and picked up its first win of the year with a 61-23 rout versus the Thunderbirds. McGoey scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Cougars in the victory.
Girls’ Basketball
The Cougars’ girls’ basketball team took defeats in its first two games of the season last week.
On Feb. 10, H-K hosted Cromwell and lost by a 57-31 score. Then on Feb. 12, the Cougars dropped a 59-48 decision at North Branford.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Rocky Hill/Middletown/Plainville/Haddam-Killingworth co-op boys’ ice hockey team lost its first three games of the winter season. H-K is joining a new co-op this year after having previously teamed up with Lyman Hall and Coginchaug.
The H-K co-op squad took a 3-2 overtime loss against Hall-Southington in a home game at Champions Skating Center in Cromwell on Feb. 10. The next day, the Cougars lost to Wethersfield by a 4-2 final in a road game at Newington Ice Arena. Then on Feb. 13, H-K’s team played Conard on the road and dropped a 4-2 decision at Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in West Hartford.
