Guilford Field Hockey Begins with Two Wins; Girls’ Soccer Blanks Hand, 1-0
Field Hockey
The Guilford field hockey team started off the 2020 fall season by earning victories over Sheehan and Mercy last week. Guilford has now won 33 games in a row going back to the 2018 campaign.
On Oct. 1, Guilford opened its season by playing a road game against Sheehan and prevailed by a 6-1 score. Two days later, Guilford hosted Mercy for its home opener and claimed a 10-2 victory at Kavanaugh Field.
Senior Hannah Tillier scored eight goals for Guilford on the week. Junior Maddie Epke netted three goals and dished out five assists for Head Coach Kitty Palmer’s squad.
Girls’ Soccer
The Guilford girls’ soccer team defeated crosstown rival Daniel Hand for its first victory with new Head Coach Regina Sullivan last week.
On Oct. 2, Guilford hosted Hand for its season opener and notched a 1-0 win against the Tigers at Kavanaugh Field. Sophomore midfielder Ari Tomassi netted the lone goal of the game to help Guilford come away with the victory.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Guilford girls’ volleyball squad played a road match versus Whitney Tech to kick off its fall campaign. Guilford posted a 3-0 victory over Whitney Tech on Oct. 1 to begin the year on a positive note.
