H-K Co-op Swim Squad Going Strong; Girls’ Hoops Routs Hale-Ray
Boys’ Swimming and Diving
Haddam-Killingworth joined forces with Morgan and Valley Regional to form a co-op boys’ swimming and diving team for the 2019-’20 season. The team earned a 99-69 home victory versus Oxford in its first meet on Dec. 19. Last week, Haddam-Killingworth/Morgan/Valley Regional defeated Granby by the final score of 91-75 at H-K High School.
The Cougars were bolstered by a slew of solid performances in their recent win over Granby. Jack Ferguson took first place in the 100 freestyle (1:58.18) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.79) in the victory. Jimmy Clemente finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.11) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.68), while Kyle Mazziotti won the 100 freestyle (50.66) and 100 backstroke (57.12). Also taking first place were Egan Rothrock in the 200 individual medley (2:19.81) and Connor Levy in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.77).
H-K also received first-place finishes from its 200 medley relay of AJ Campo de la Vera, Rothrock, Clemente, and Matt Scowronek (1:58.01); the 200 freestyle relay of Clemente, Levy, Ferguson, and Mazziotti (1:43.92); and the 400 freestyle relay of Mazziotti, Ferguson, Levy, and Rothrock (3:47.70). The 200 freestyle relay of Scowronek, Conor Schipritt, Nolan Braren, and Campo de la Vera finished in second place at 2:01.37.
Scowronek took second place in the 50 freestyle (26.79) and the 100 backstroke (1:10.12) at the meet. Levy finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.60. Campo de la Vera placed second in the 200 IM (2:29.80) and was third for the 500 freestyle (7:09.62).
Girls’ Basketball
The Cougars came away with a split last week and now have a record of 3-4.
H-K hosted Old Lyme and lost to the Wildcats by a 46-32 final on Jan. 7. Then on Jan. 10, H-K claimed a 47-21 road victory against Hale-Ray for its third win of the year.
Boys’ Basketball
H-K moved to 1-4 on the season after taking a pair of home losses last week.
On Jan. 6, H-K lost a 75-52 decision against Old Lyme. Three days later, the Cougars took a 66-53 defeat to Hale-Ray.
Boys’ Ice Hockey
The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug boys’ ice hockey squad stands at 2-4-1 after taking a loss and getting a win last week.
The Trojans took a 4-0 home loss to Woodstock Academy on Jan. 8. Three days later, they skated to a 3-0 road win against Watertown-Pomperaug.
Gymnastics
H-K competed against three teams in a quad-meet at Jonathan Law High School on Jan. 10. The Cougars finished with a score of 41.10 and took losses against Law (128.05), Mercy (124.6), and Valley Regional (113.4) at the meet.
