The Branford boys’ soccer team saw its season come to a close when the Hornets took a 3-0 loss at Wilton in the first round of the Class L State Tournament. The Hornets finished the year with an overall record of 7-8-2.
The 23rd-seeded Hornets were on the road to face No. 10 Wilton in the opening round of the Class L tourney and lost a 3-0 decision on Nov. 11. Branford had qualified for states by finishing the regular season with a record of 7-7-2.Girls’ Soccer
The Hornets’ girls’ soccer squad hit the road to square off against Sheehan for a first-round game in the Class L State Tournament last week. Branford dropped a 2-1 decision to Sheehan to finish its season with a record of 5-8-4.
Branford entered the Class L bracket as the No. 25 seed after winning its last game of the regular season to qualify. In the first round, the Hornets took on 8th-seeded Sheehan and lost the game by a 2-1 final in Wallingford on Nov. 12.Girls’ Swimming and Diving
Branford continued its postseason by competing at the Class M State Championship at Southern Connecticut State University on Nov. 20 (after press time). The Hornets had previously finished in 11th place at the SCC Championship that took place on Nov. 4. The State Open Championship will be held at Yale University on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.Football
The Branford football team was on the bye week last week. With their overall record of 4-4, the Hornets will get ready to host Foran for an SCC Tier 3 matchup on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Foran comes into the game with an overall record of 4-4 to go with a mark of 2-2 in SCC Tier 3. Branford has a record of 2-1 in SCC Tier 3 action this year, one game behind East Haven (3-0) for first place. After playing Foran, the Hornets will conclude the 2019 season by hosting rival East Haven in the 78th annual Beehive Bowl at 10:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 28.
