The Shoreline Cougars baseball team’s summer season got underway in the 19-U AAU East Shore Baseball League with a pair of games last week. The Cougars split a double header against the Flying Squirrels on June 15 to start the year with a 1-1 record.
In the first game, the Cougars lost by a score of 8-1 when the Flying Squirrels uncorked an offensive outburst in the fifth inning. The squirrels scored two runs in the bottom of the first, and the Cougars pulled within one run with a score in the top of the second inning. The Squirrels scored six in the fifth inning to run away with the contest. Caden Civiello had a pair of hits in the defeat, and Josh Ross of Chester notched a pair of walks.
In the second contest, the Cougars posted a 9-0 victory over the Flying Squirrels, backed by a six-inning complete game shut out from Carmelo Rosa, who only allowed a pair of hits on the day. Omar Osorio had a big day with three hits, four RBI, and a run to his credit. Ryan Kehlenbach provided two hits and a run, while Sam Erskine notched a hit, a run, and an RBI.
