Morgan Boys’ Hoops Loses to Cromwell in Shoreline Semis, Ready for States
The Morgan boys’ basketball team took a loss against Cromwell in the semifinals of the Shoreline Conference Tournament last week. On Feb. 26, the 5th-seeded Huskies dropped a 48-28 decision versus the top-seeded, eventual-champion Panthers in the semifinal round. Morgan has a record of 15-7 as it gets ready to compete in the Division V State Tournament this week.
Morgan held a 6-4 lead over Cromwell after the first quarter, but Cromwell responded by outscoring the Huskies 14-7 during the second quarter to take a 18-13 lead at halftime. The Panthers added to their lead throughout the second half to come away with the 20-point win. Garrett Johnson scored 11 points for Morgan, while Chris Nuzzo had nine points.
This week, Morgan begins play in the Division V State Tournament as the No. 6 seed. The Huskies will open the tourney by hosting a first-round game against No. 27 seed Haddam-Killingworth (8-12) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. With a victory, the Huskies would either host No. 11 Bullard-Havens or No. 22 Terryville in a second-round contest on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. The Division V quarterfinals are on Monday, March 11; the semis take place on Wednesday, March 13 and the Division V state final will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville on either Saturday, March 16 or Sunday, March 17.
